On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled the BJP’s manifesto for the upcoming Jammu & Kashmir Assembly elections. The event was attended by BJP state unit chief Ravinder Raina and other prominent party leaders. During the release, Shah made a strong statement regarding Article 370, a significant constitutional provision that was revoked by the Indian government in 2019.
He declared, “I have seen the NC’s (National Conference) agenda. I have also seen Congress silently supporting NC’s agenda. But, I want to say to the country that Article 370 is history, it will never return, and we won’t let it happen. Article 370 was the thing that gave weapons and stones in the hands of the youth…” This statement reaffirms the BJP’s commitment to maintain the status quo following the abrogation of Article 370, which previously granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
Shah’s remarks also serve as a direct challenge to the National Conference and Congress, suggesting that the BJP views their political agendas as advocating for a return to the pre-2019 situation. This sets the stage for a heated political battle during the upcoming elections, as parties grapple with the legacy of Article 370 and its impact on the future of Jammu and Kashmir.
