The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its initial candidate list for the impending Haryana Assembly elections, encompassing 90 seats. However, the list conspicuously omitted former MLA Shashi Ranjan Parmar. The exclusion deeply affected Parmar, who was visibly emotional during a televised interview.
In response to a reporter’s inquiry about his absence from the candidate list, Parmar expressed his bewilderment and disappointment, stating, “I had thought that my name would be on the list…” He had reportedly been vying for a BJP nomination in the Bhiwani and Tosham constituencies, as reported by Hindustan Times, citing JNC news.
When the interviewer attempted to console the disheartened BJP leader, emphasizing the party’s recognition of his contributions, Parmar’s emotions intensified, and he broke down in tears. As quoted by HT, he said, “I had assured people that my name was being considered. What do I do now? I am helpless.” The interviewer urged Parmar to stay strong for both the party and his supporters, saying, “Netaji, aap hausla rakhein (Sir, please stay strong).”
Parmar’s response was filled with pain and anguish, questioning the party’s decision and the impact on his future. “What is happening to me…the way that I have been treated… I am in so much pain. What kind of decisions are being taken?”
Meanwhile, the BJP has nominated the incumbent Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini, for the Karnal seat. The polling for the 90-member Haryana Assembly was initially scheduled for October 1 but was later postponed to October 5 by the Election Commission. The Commission cited the voting rights and traditions of the Bishnoi community, who commemorate their Guru Jambheshwar with a centuries-old practice, as the reason for the date change.
