Sanjay Roy, the main suspect in the brutal rape and murder of a young post-graduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital, has vehemently denied any involvement in the crime during a polygraph test conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). According to reports, Roy claimed that he discovered the victim already deceased and promptly fled the scene. He stated, “I didn’t commit the murder. I escaped from the seminar hall after just seeing the dead body.”
However, the results of the lie detector test raised significant concerns. Several of Roy’s answers were flagged as “false and unconvincing,” and he exhibited noticeable nervousness and anxiety throughout the hours of questioning. CBI sources also revealed that Roy provided multiple alibis during the polygraph test.
His arrest was prompted by the discovery of his Bluetooth device near the victim’s body, and CCTV footage captured him entering the hospital’s seminar hall, where the doctor’s body was found. Notably, Roy had previously made similar claims of innocence before the additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM) court in Sealdah, stating that he agreed to the polygraph test to prove his innocence.
Roy’s lawyer, Kavita Sarkar, maintained his innocence, asserting that he was “framed” and that the CBI had yet to produce conclusive evidence. She stated, “CBI couldn’t produce conclusive evidence so far. Let them investigate and prove the crime.”
It has been revealed that Roy visited Sonagachi, a red-light district in Kolkata, before the incident, and consumed alcohol. Police allege that Roy had a history of watching pornography.
The CBI conducted polygraph tests on several other individuals at their Kolkata office, including former principal of RGKMCH Sandip Ghosh. The test on Roy lasted approximately four hours. The investigation into this heinous crime continues, with authorities seeking to establish the truth behind the doctor’s tragic death.
