Mumbai Metro 3: Aqua Line Set for Inauguration, Connecting Airports to Key Commercial Areas

Mumbai’s transportation landscape is about to undergo a significant transformation with the highly anticipated launch of Mumbai Metro 3, the state’s second underground metro line. The launch, expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marks a major milestone in the city’s public transport system.

The Aqua Line, the initial phase of Mumbai Metro 3, will cover a 12 km distance with 10 stations. This initial stretch will connect vital commercial hubs, including Bandra Kurla Complex, Andheri East, MIDC, and the SEEPZ jewelry hub, directly to the city’s international and domestic airports.

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has recently invited the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) to inspect and approve the metro trains. An inspection of the tracks between Aarey Colony and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) is scheduled for next week, indicating the project’s nearing completion.

The Aqua Line’s significance extends beyond improved connectivity between airports and commercial centers. It will seamlessly connect with Mumbai Metro 1 at Marol Naka, providing access to other metro lines at Gundavali and Andheri West, and railway stations at Andheri and Ghatkopar. This integration will further enhance travel options between the western and eastern suburbs, easing congestion and facilitating efficient movement throughout the city.

The groundbreaking ceremony for this ambitious 33.5-km-long project was held on August 26, 2014, at Marol, with construction commencing in October 2016. The launch of the Aqua Line is anticipated to take place between the conclusion of the 10-day Ganesh festival and the implementation of the model code of conduct for the upcoming elections.

The launch of Mumbai Metro 3 is a testament to the city’s commitment to modernizing its transportation infrastructure, providing residents with enhanced travel options, and fostering economic growth. The Aqua Line is set to revolutionize Mumbai’s commuting experience, offering a faster, more efficient, and convenient way to navigate the city.
