Third Dormitory Fire in Days Devastates Kenyan School

A devastating fire ripped through a dormitory at Njia Boys High School in Meru County, Kenya, on Sunday, marking the third school fire in just a few days. The blaze erupted as students were having supper, thankfully resulting in no casualties. A police statement revealed that the building, housing approximately 150 students, was completely consumed by the inferno, leaving behind only ashes and property of unknown value.

This incident follows a horrific tragedy last Thursday at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County, where a dormitory fire claimed the lives of 21 boys while they were sleeping. Just a day later, another fire broke out at a girls’ high school in Isiolo County, also in central Kenya. While a local official reported several injuries, police confirmed that no one was harmed in this incident.

The deadly fire last week has cast a harsh spotlight on safety concerns within Kenyan schools. President William Ruto has pledged to bring those responsible for the tragedies to justice, vowing to ensure that such incidents are prevented in the future. The recent wave of fires has sparked urgent calls for a thorough investigation into the causes of these incidents and the implementation of robust safety measures to protect students and safeguard their well-being.
