Food Safety Alert: Counterfeit Vodka and Undeclared Peanuts in Soups

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) in the UK has issued urgent warnings regarding two popular food items sold in supermarkets across the country. Consumers are advised to check their pantries and return any affected products for a full refund.

Counterfeit Vodka:

A counterfeit version of Glen’s Vodka, sold in 35cl bottles, has been found to contain isopropyl alcohol. This industrial solvent is highly dangerous for human consumption and can cause alcohol poisoning, leading to serious health complications, including death. The FSA emphasizes that isopropyl alcohol has a distinct smell and taste different from regular vodka. If you notice any such difference, do not consume the product and immediately store it safely while notifying local authorities.

Soup Recall:

Aldi’s Soupreme Creamy Chicken Soup and Specially Selected Pea and Ham Hock Soup, both in 600g packs, have been recalled due to the potential presence of undeclared peanuts. These soups have a best before date of October 1, 2024, for the chicken soup and September 28, 2024, for the ham soup. The presence of peanuts is a serious concern for those with peanut allergies. If you have purchased these soups and have a peanut allergy, please do not consume them. Return the products to the store for a full refund.

The FSA urges consumers to exercise caution and prioritize their safety by heeding these warnings. It is essential to carefully check product labels and be vigilant about potential food safety hazards.
