Six Senior Advocates Appointed as Additional Solicitor Generals in India

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) in India has approved the appointment of six prominent senior advocates as Additional Solicitor Generals (ASGs) in the Supreme Court. These appointments, effective immediately, are for a period of three years.

The six newly appointed ASGs are:

1. Senior Advocate S. Dwarakanath
2. Ms. Archana Pathak Dave
3. Satya Darshi Sanjay
4. Brijender Chahar
5. Raghavendra P. Shankar
6. Rajkumar Bhaskar Thakare (Raja Thakare)

These senior advocates have distinguished themselves through their involvement in numerous high-profile cases before the Supreme Court. They bring a wealth of experience in diverse legal fields, including constitutional law, commercial law, and corporate law.

These appointments are part of the Union Government’s strategy to fortify its legal representation in the Supreme Court.

Other Supreme Court Developments

In a separate development, the Supreme Court reminded the doctors involved in the Kolkata rape-murder case that no disciplinary action will be taken against them if they return to work by September 10. The court noted that failure to do so could result in disciplinary action.

However, doctors at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital continue to protest the incident, which has sparked public outcry and demands for justice.

In another case, the Supreme Court stayed further proceedings in a defamation case against senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor. The case stems from his 2018 remark about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which was deemed offensive by some. The court has issued notices to Delhi police and BJP leader Rajiv Babbar, who filed the complaint against Tharoor, and will hear the matter again in four weeks.
