In a significant development ahead of the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, Engineer Rashid, an independent Member of Parliament representing the Baramulla constituency, has been granted interim bail until October 2nd by the Delhi Patiala House Court. This bail order comes just days before the first phase of polling in Kashmir, scheduled for September 18th.
The terror funding case against Rashid has been a point of contention, and this interim bail decision has added another layer to the already complex political landscape of the region. Notably, Rashid’s brother, Khurshid Ahmad, is contesting the upcoming assembly elections from the Langate seat in North Kashmir as a candidate from the Awami Ittihad Party (AIP).
Engineer Rashid’s political career has been marked by his independent stance. He previously served as a two-time MLA from the Langate seat before winning the Lok Sabha elections against former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
With the first phase of polling in Kashmir just days away, the granting of interim bail to Engineer Rashid has sparked discussions about the potential impact on the election campaign and the overall political climate in the region.
