Tragedy struck Bollywood actress Malaika Arora on Monday as her father, Anil Arora, died by suicide. According to reports, Mr. Arora jumped from the terrace of their residence in Mumbai. DCP Zone 9, Raj Tilak Roshan, confirmed the incident, stating that ‘prima facie it seems to be suicide.’
The incident occurred around 10:30 am at their family residence, Ayesha Manor, in Bandra West, Mumbai. An official confirmed that Mr. Arora allegedly jumped from the sixth floor of the building. Police are currently investigating all angles, and forensic teams are on site. The body has been taken for a postmortem examination.
Malaika Arora was not at home when her father took his own life. She was reportedly in Pune and rushed back to Mumbai upon hearing the news. Her ex-husband, Arbaaz Khan, also arrived at the residence to offer his support. Arbaaz’s parents, Salim Khan and Salma Khan, were pictured arriving at the Arora residence, along with his brother Sohail Khan and sister Alvira Khan Agnihotri.
While the reason for the suicide is still unclear, police have confirmed that no suicide note has been recovered. The case is under investigation.
Anil Arora, a Punjabi Hindu, served in the Indian Merchant Navy. He was originally from Fazilka, near the Indian border. He was married to Joyce Polycarp, a Malayali Christian, and they had two daughters: Malaika and Amrita Arora. The couple unfortunately divorced when Malaika was 11 and Amrita was 6.
In July 2023, Anil Arora was hospitalized, and Malaika visited him along with her mother. The actress-model also celebrated Christmas in 2022 with both her parents by her side.
