Nestled deep within the heart of the Serengeti National Park, Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti has unveiled a pioneering solar farm, showcasing its unwavering commitment to eco-luxury and responsible tourism. This landmark project, the largest of its kind in the region, marks a complete transition to off-grid energy, solidifying the lodge’s dedication to preserving the pristine wilderness that surrounds it.
The solar farm, comprised of an impressive 2,256 solar panels generating 990 kWp of renewable energy, is supported by a 1 MW inverter and a 3 MWh battery storage system. This powerful infrastructure establishes a new benchmark for eco-friendly luxury travel within the Serengeti.
“This solar farm is more than just an energy solution,” states Marisa Fernandes, General Manager of Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti. “It is a testament to our dedication to preserving the pristine environment that surrounds us. As custodians of this incredible ecosystem, we are committed to minimizing our impact and leaving a lighter footprint for generations to come.”
Beyond the immediate benefit of providing sustainable energy to the lodge, the solar farm is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by a remarkable 14,197 tonnes over the next 25 years. This achievement translates to an annual savings of over 640,000 liters of diesel fuel, emphasizing the project’s profound commitment to environmental conservation.
With this transformative project, Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti is leading the way in sustainable luxury travel within the Serengeti. “The solar farm project demonstrates that responsible practices can coexist with extraordinary experiences, ensuring that the beauty and wonder of the Serengeti remain intact – a wild, magnificent testament to the power of the sun,” emphasizes Fernandes.
The solar farm serves as a powerful symbol of the lodge’s unwavering dedication to sustainability, offering guests the ultimate luxury: the chance to embark on a safari adventure while directly contributing to the conservation of this remarkable wilderness.
Solar energy is just one facet of Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti’s comprehensive approach to environmental sustainability. Through its Discovery Centre and the Discovery Centre Fund, the lodge channels proceeds from every safari, walking tour, boutique sale, and guest donation to fund vital community and wildlife projects within and around the Serengeti. These initiatives include the Rhino Conservation Project, the Frankfurt Zoological Society’s Serengeti De-Snaring Project, assistance to a safe house in Mugumu for vulnerable women and girls, and ongoing support for Robunda School in the local community.
By embracing sustainable practices and supporting local communities, Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti offers guests an unparalleled experience: the opportunity to immerse themselves in the beauty of the Serengeti while making a positive impact on the environment and the lives of those who call this extraordinary place home.
