The New Taipei City Government, through its Tourism and Travel Department, took a significant step towards boosting tourism from Thailand by hosting a special promotion event in Bangkok on September 6th. The event aimed to introduce Thai travel professionals to the diverse attractions and culinary delights of New Taipei City, solidifying its position as a premier travel destination.
The event featured a dynamic collaboration with the local hospitality sector, providing a platform to showcase New Taipei’s unique offerings. The delegation actively engaged with key organizations, including the Taiwan Tourism Administration (Bangkok Office), the Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA), and the Thai-Taiwan Business Association, further strengthening ties and fostering a spirit of collaboration.
The event highlighted internationally renowned events like New Taipei City’s Christmas Land, the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival, and the upcoming World Masters Games 2025, jointly hosted by Taipei and New Taipei City. To appeal to Thai visitors, the promotional efforts focused on showcasing local culinary delights. Signature New Taipei dishes, such as Tamsui Ah Gei, Jiufen taro balls, Wanli crabs, Shimen rice dumplings, Sanxia “bull horn” croissants, and Wulai’s indigenous bamboo tube rice, were prominently displayed on a striking 3-meter-high illustrated welcome wall, capturing the attention of the Thai travel professionals.
Popular local souvenirs, including Pinglin Pouchong Tea Egg Rolls, Sanxia Biluochun Tea, and Yingge porcelain tea sets, were also a hit among the attendees. These offerings showcased the rich cultural heritage and artisanal craftsmanship of New Taipei City, making it a compelling destination for souvenir enthusiasts.
Yang Tsung-Min, Director-General of New Taipei’s Tourism and Travel Department, highlighted the significant growth in Thai tourists visiting Taiwan, with over 180,000 visitors by May of this year, making Thailand the third-largest source of Southeast Asian tourists after Malaysia and the Philippines. Following a successful promotional event in Malaysia in May, the department has intensified its efforts to attract more Thai visitors, recently hosting a special promotional dinner in Bangkok.
The event further emphasized the promotion of regional travel packages across Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan. Brochures were distributed to highlight the attractions of Taipei and Taoyuan, showcasing the collaborative approach towards regional tourism. Yang emphasized that the collaboration between these cities has already been established through the Keelung-Taipei-New Taipei-Taoyuan Collaboration and Exchange Platform. Promoting travel across Northern Taiwan benefits all four cities, particularly after a successful joint promotional event held in South Korea in July.
Yang expressed optimism that future partnerships among the four cities will only strengthen, further boosting tourism across the region. This collaborative approach, coupled with the focus on promoting culinary delights and regional travel packages, positions New Taipei City as a compelling destination for Thai tourists, ready to explore the rich cultural tapestry and vibrant attractions of Northern Taiwan.
