The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, labeling him a “bail wala” chief minister following his release on bail by the Supreme Court in a money laundering case connected to the alleged liquor policy scam. BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia, in a press conference, took a jab at Kejriwal, transforming the previous label of “jail wala” CM into the current one, highlighting the ongoing legal battles surrounding the Delhi CM.
Bhatia stated that the Supreme Court had once again shown a “mirror” to the “kattar beimaan” (deceitful) AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, emphasizing that the bail was conditional. He went on to criticize Kejriwal’s earlier stance on politicians resigning in the face of allegations, pointing out the hypocrisy of his continued presence as CM despite the ongoing case and his previous jail time. Bhatia argued that Kejriwal lacks even a “drop of morality” and should step down as per the wishes of the people of Delhi. He further stressed that Kejriwal has not been acquitted and faces continued legal proceedings, raising questions about his continued leadership in the face of these allegations.
BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat echoed the sentiment, highlighting the conditions imposed by the Supreme Court on Kejriwal’s bail, which restrict his activities as CM, including the inability to visit the CM Secretariat, sign files, issue statements on the matter, or travel abroad. Sehrawat posed a crucial question: will Kejriwal be forced to step down as CM due to these constraints or will he continue to hold the post, potentially facing another period of imprisonment upon further legal proceedings?
The case against Arvind Kejriwal began in March 2023 with his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) followed by his subsequent arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) while in ED custody on June 26. Kejriwal has been granted bail on two previous occasions, once for campaigning in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and most recently by the Supreme Court. The ongoing legal battle and the BJP’s unrelenting criticism pose a significant challenge to Kejriwal’s political future and highlight the complexities of the liquor policy scam case.
