National Grid Celebrates Fourth Annual ‘Project C’ Week of Service

For the fourth year in a row, National Grid is dedicating a week to giving back to the communities they serve. Over 1,500 employees will be stepping away from their desks to volunteer with local organizations and schools in celebration of the company’s Project C initiative. This annual Week of Service underscores National Grid’s commitment to making a meaningful and lasting impact on the areas where their employees live and work.

Project C, fueled by National Grid’s shareholders, aims to revitalize neighborhoods, invest in beautification programs for nonprofits and cultural institutions, support climate justice and social equity programs, and assist small businesses and families. This year, National Grid employees will be engaged in a wide range of activities, from painting parks and cleaning beaches to building floating gardens and hosting career fairs. The program’s expansion to a week-long event in 2023 is a testament to the positive reception it has received from communities and partners, as well as the enthusiasm of National Grid’s employee volunteers.

Across New York, from New York City to Long Island, Eastern New York, Central New York, and Western New York, National Grid employees will be making a difference in their local areas. In New York City, volunteers will be hosting a Resource Fair, distributing food and providing energy efficiency tips in Bedford Stuyvesant. They will also be beautifying parks like Brookville Park in Queens, Prospect Park in Brooklyn, and the Downtown Bayview corridor on Staten Island. On Long Island, volunteers will be cleaning up Jones Beach State Park, helping veterans at the United Veterans Beacon House in Bay Shore, and participating in home builds with Habitat for Humanity. In Eastern New York, National Grid is hosting a career day at their Schenectady service center, allowing students to explore careers in clean energy. They will also be assisting the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and Comfort Food Communities. In Central New York, employees will be joining career and technical education classrooms in Syracuse, helping to clean the Onondaga Creekwalk, and contributing to the Village of Canastota. In Western New York, employees are assisting with the restoration of historic ships in Buffalo, helping Whispering River Animal Rescue in Gasport, and supporting organizations like the Buffalo Zoo and Operation Warm Hearts.

Beyond this week of service, National Grid employees are deeply involved in their communities year-round. They are volunteering with local schools and organizations, sharing their time, talents, and passion. National Grid’s commitment to community engagement goes beyond just volunteering. Through its Corporate Citizenship efforts, National Grid contributes over $5 million annually to community-based organizations across New York.

Project C, aligned with National Grid’s Responsible Business Charter, focuses on four key areas: clean energy and sustainability, workforce development, neighborhood investment and community engagement, and environmental justice and social equity. Since its launch in 2021, Project C has achieved remarkable results, supporting over 183,000 local businesses, launching 1,100 community partnerships, planting or donating 2,600 trees, training 6,000 workers in clean energy, and adopting 60 parks. National Grid’s commitment to community involvement is evident in their goal to amass 500,000 volunteer hours by 2030.

National Grid’s Project C initiative serves as a testament to their dedication to building a better future for their communities. Their commitment to clean energy, community revitalization, and workforce development highlights their dedication to creating a brighter future for their neighbors.
