Young Paceman Mahli Beardman Earns Standby Spot for Australia’s ODI Squad

Australia’s ODI squad is set to face England in a five-match series, with a fresh face joining the ranks as a standby player. Teenage pace sensation Mahli Beardman, who recently shone in the Under-19 World Cup final, has been named as a standby for the senior team. This marks a significant step in his cricketing journey, offering him the chance to experience international cricket at the highest level.

Beardman, just 19 years old, was the player of the match in the Under-19 World Cup final, showcasing his raw talent and potential. He will join the 17-player squad in Nottingham, England, where the ODI series will take place.

The ODI squad has also been boosted by the inclusion of left-arm pacer Ben Dwarshuis, who has already gained experience playing for Durham and Northern Superchargers in English domestic cricket. Cooper Connolly, who was initially set to leave after the T20 series against England, has also been added to the ODI roster.

Australia’s pace attack has been hit by a series of injuries during the T20 leg of their tour. Nathan Ellis, Riley Meredith, and Xavier Bartlett have all been sidelined, prompting the call-up for Dwarshuis. He joins the established pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Sean Abbott, while all-rounders Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, and captain Mitch Marsh will provide additional bowling support.

The return of experienced players like Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Marnus Labuschagne, and Alex Carey adds a significant boost to the team’s batting lineup. These seasoned campaigners bring a wealth of experience and skill to the squad.

The first ODI of the five-match series is scheduled for Thursday at Trent Bridge. With a mix of experienced and emerging talent, Australia will be looking to make a strong start to their ODI campaign against England.
