Trump Embraces Crypto: From NFT Success to ‘Gigantic’ Potential

Former President Donald Trump has taken a surprising turn, expressing a growing interest in cryptocurrencies. This shift in perspective comes after the unexpected success of his NFT collection and the influence of his children, particularly his son Barron.

Trump revealed that his initial skepticism about crypto quickly faded after his NFT collection, featuring digital trading cards, sold out almost immediately. “We thought it would take six months, maybe a year, to sell,” he said during a Twitter Spaces event. “It was like almost immediately.” The payments made in crypto for these cards opened his eyes to the importance of digital currencies.

His sons, particularly Barron, have also been instrumental in shaping his understanding of crypto. Trump noted, “My kids, they really understood it right from the beginning. Barron talks about his wallets; he’s got four wallets or something, and I’m saying, ‘What is it that he knows?’ But he gets it.”

Trump now sees crypto as essential for the future of finance, emphasizing the need for the U.S. to lead in this space. “If we don’t do it, China is going to do it…It’s bigger than they realize. The value of it is gigantic, and we have to be the biggest,” he said.

This newfound enthusiasm for crypto comes just a day after an alleged assassination attempt at Trump’s golf club. The FBI is investigating, and a suspect has been detained.

Trump recently launched World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform aimed at promoting dollar-pegged stablecoins to ensure U.S. financial dominance. His sons, Barron, Eric, and Donald Junior, are heavily involved in the project.

Trump’s increasing interest in cryptocurrencies will be a key topic at Benzinga’s Future of Digital Assets event on November 19th. This event will bring together industry leaders to discuss the impact of regulations, NFTs, and innovations in the crypto space.
