In a remarkable feat, the horror-comedy film “Stree 2” has taken the crown for the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024, outpacing the box office behemoths “Jawan” and “Fighter.” Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed the staggering numbers on his X (formerly Twitter) account, reporting that “Stree 2” has raked in a massive ₹ 586 crore in its Indian nett box office collection. While industry tracker Sacnilk reports a slightly lower figure of ₹ 560.35 crore, the film’s dominance is undeniable.
“Stree 2” has achieved this milestone in just 34 days, surpassing “Jawan,” which took 57 days to reach its impressive domestic earnings of ₹ 640.25 crore. It’s worth noting that “Jawan’s” overall collection includes earnings from its Tamil and Telugu versions, contributing ₹ 30.08 crore and ₹ 27.86 crore, respectively. This feat signifies the immense popularity of “Stree 2,” showcasing its ability to captivate audiences and drive significant box office numbers. The film’s stellar performance has surpassed even “Fighter,” starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, solidifying its position as the top-grossing Hindi movie of 2024.
“Stree 2,” starring Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, and Pankaj Tripathi, has demonstrated its staying power, earning a respectable ₹ 2.5 crore on its 34th day at the box office. In comparison, “Jawan’s” Hindi version earned ₹ 80 lakh on its 34th day, while Ranbir Kapoor’s “Animal” brought in ₹ 50 lakh. Even Shah Rukh Khan’s previous blockbuster “Pathaan” earned ₹ 80 lakh on its 34th day, highlighting the impressive longevity of “Stree 2.”
While “Stree 2” is making waves in the domestic market, its overseas collection has not reached the same heights as last year’s biggest Hindi blockbusters. Despite amassing a respectable ₹ 130 crore in overseas earnings, “Stree 2” is likely to fall short of the global collections of “Animal” (₹ 915 crore), “Pathaan” (₹ 1,055 crore), and “Jawan” (₹ 1,160 crore). However, its impressive domestic performance has cemented its position as a box office triumph. “Stree 2” has not only achieved the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024 but has also demonstrated the enduring appeal of horror-comedy films among Indian audiences.
