This season, Massimo Giorgetti, the creative force behind MSGM, chose to forgo the traditional runway, opting instead for a presentation at the brand’s headquarters. It’s a decision that reflects the current climate – times of market volatility, global political turmoil, and economic uncertainty call for a more focused approach. But as Giorgetti knows, constraints can be a blessing in disguise, often sparking creativity. And with his trademark optimism, he embraced these challenges head-on.
For Giorgetti, art and life are intrinsically intertwined. He frequently collaborates with artists and friends from the visual arts and music industry, drawing inspiration from their worlds. This season, his villa, La Vedetta – a former modernist observatory overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea – played a prominent role in his creative process. La Vedetta’s white and blue exteriors, along with iconic pieces like Mario Bellini’s Figura chair and Eileen Gray’s Klein-blue E-1027 residence, found their way onto Giorgetti’s moodboard and into the collection’s imagery.
MSGM collections have sometimes felt overwhelmed by an abundance of references, with various influences vying for attention. But this time, the curated selection allowed for a greater sense of clarity and focus. By streamlining the inspirations, the core vision emerged more distinctly.
Fosbury Architecture curated the installation, crafting a labyrinthine pathway of Klein-blue sand, providing a vibrant contrast to the collection’s bold motifs and saturated colors. Standout pieces included form-fitting, feminine dresses in stretchy mesh, adorned with sequins and printed with softly faded florals or featuring spontaneous, haphazard ruffles. A handmade abstract drawing by painter Luca De Gaetano, depicting vibrant bouquets of Scotch brooms from La Vedetta’s garden, was translated onto an oversized chemise and pants set, as well as an hourglass-shaped minidress.
Giorgetti emphasized that the ‘less is more’ approach feels particularly fitting in today’s world. “More care, more soul, and being generous with my energy,” he said, summarizing his guiding motto. This collection is a testament to the power of simplicity, demonstrating how focusing on a select few inspirations can create a cohesive and captivating collection, reflecting the times we live in.
