IPL 2025 Mega Auction Likely to be Held in UAE, Dates Under Consideration

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is gearing up for its mega auction in 2025, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking to hold the event overseas. While no official announcement has been made, sources indicate that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is the frontrunner to host the auction.

The BCCI is considering two potential dates: the second week of November or the third week of December. However, the final decision on the date is pending as the Board is meticulously considering logistical aspects and the availability of all stakeholders. The event is planned to span two days, making it essential to ensure smooth operations and convenience for everyone involved.

Earlier this year, in July, the BCCI met with the franchise owners and promised to release an updated retention policy before the second week of August. However, this communication has been delayed, leaving the franchises with some concerns. Nonetheless, BCCI sources assure that a formal announcement regarding the policy will be sent out by the end of this week or early next week.

With the auction potentially taking place abroad, the franchises are now preparing their travel plans and logistical arrangements. The previous IPL auction was held in Dubai, and it appears that the UAE could be the preferred destination again, with Abu Dhabi also being considered. Other potential locations include Muscat and Doha.

The BCCI has confirmed that no final decisions have been made regarding the venue. The Board is exploring various options and will inform the franchises in due course. An official announcement is expected within the next couple of weeks.
