As part of the ongoing “Marhaba Dhofar” event, Oman and Saudi Arabia have taken a significant step towards strengthening their tourism partnership. The event, organized by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, brought together over 40 tourism companies and 13 media institutions from Saudi Arabia for a 5-day collaborative program aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
Azzan Qassim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Tourism, emphasized the growing importance of the GCC market in supporting Oman’s tourism sector. He highlighted the impressive figures of 1.6 million GCC visitors to Oman in 2023, with Saudi Arabia contributing a significant 103,000 visitors. This trend continues to grow, with 63,678 Saudi visitors already recorded by July 2024, reflecting the increasing demand for Oman’s unique tourism offerings.
The event featured a captivating visual presentation titled “Discover Dhofar,” showcasing the region’s breathtaking beauty. A photo exhibition, highlighting the Dhofar Forum 2024, further captivated attendees, with 16 GCC photographers capturing the region’s stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife, and traditional agricultural practices.
On the sidelines of the event, Al Busaidi engaged in a media briefing with Saudi media representatives. During the briefing, he discussed the ongoing efforts to elevate Oman’s tourism sector and promote its integrated tourist destinations, showcasing the country’s commitment to providing a comprehensive and enriching travel experience for visitors.
This collaborative effort between Oman and Saudi Arabia signifies the growing importance of regional partnerships in driving tourism growth. It is a testament to the potential of Dhofar, and Oman as a whole, to attract a wider international audience and establish itself as a leading tourism destination within the GCC region.
