A team of international media professionals, including chief editors and journalists from Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Spain, Romania, and other countries, embarked on a captivating journey through Yulin City, located in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province. From September 12 to 14, they immersed themselves in the city’s deep cultural heritage, exploring its vibrant history, traditions, and ancient civilizations.
A Journey Through Northern Shaanxi’s Musical Legacy
One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the Northern Shaanxi Folk Song Museum, the largest cultural center dedicated to the development of folk music in the region. The museum, spanning six distinct exhibition areas, offered the media team a comprehensive look at the history and evolution of northern Shaanxi’s folk songs. The immersive experience was further enriched by live musical performances and a captivating 5D cinema, bringing the spirit of the region’s culture to life.
Serik Korzhumbayev, editor-in-chief of Delovoy Kazakhstan, was deeply moved by the performance, saying, “Through music, cultural traditions are passed down from generation to generation. I could feel the spirit of northern Shaanxi through the singers’ voices and melodies.” His words highlighted the profound connection between music and the people of the region.
Exploring Yulin’s Intangible Cultural Heritage
The media team also ventured to Yulin’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall, located in Yuyang District. Here, they delved into the intricate art of traditional paper-cutting techniques, an integral aspect of Yulin’s cultural identity.
Isaura Diez Millan, chief correspondent of the Latin American News Agency in China, expressed her admiration for the exhibition, stating, “It provides visitors with a deeper understanding of Yulin’s intangible cultural heritage. It’s fascinating and fosters mutual respect and understanding among different cultures.” Her observation underlined the significance of cultural exchange in promoting global harmony.
Unveiling the Secrets of Shimao Civilization
Another essential stop on the media tour was the Shimao Museum in Shenmu City, which falls under Yulin’s jurisdiction. The museum showcases the rich history of the Shimao culture, an ancient stone-built city dating back approximately 4,000 years. The media professionals were captivated by the extensive collection of artifacts, including jade, pottery, stone carvings, and murals, providing a vivid glimpse into a once-thriving civilization.
Yasiru Bandara Ranaraja, founder and director of Belt & Road Initiative Sri Lanka, expressed his awe at the ancient relics, saying, “These exhibits are proof of a highly advanced society that flourished 4,000 years ago, with expertise in farming, hunting, and religious practices. The excavation and preservation of these relics set a benchmark for safeguarding cultural heritage, not just for China but for the entire world.” His statement underscored the global significance of the Shimao site and its contribution to preserving cultural heritage.
The visit left a lasting impression on the media group, showcasing Yulin’s unique blend of history, culture, and innovation while fostering deeper cultural connections with the international community.
