As the air turns crisp and the leaves begin to change, autumn officially arrives, bringing with it the irresistible allure of the Pumpkin Spice Latte. But with the cost of living on the rise, indulging in this seasonal favorite can feel like a luxury. Thankfully, Greggs has come to the rescue, offering the cheapest Pumpkin Spice Latte on the high street at just £2.20!
That’s right, a mere £2.20 for a pumpkin spice dream – 20p cheaper than last year! This makes Greggs’ PSL an absolute steal compared to its competitors. Starbucks and Pret A Manger both charge £4.65, making Greggs’ offering a whopping 53% cheaper!
This price comparison was conducted by SumUp, who analyzed autumn menus from the leading coffee shops: Starbucks, Costa, Greggs, and Pret A Manger. They found that while Greggs reigns supreme in terms of affordability, Costa, surprisingly, doesn’t even offer a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Instead, they present a Maple Hazel Latte, which, at £4.95, is actually 6% more expensive than the pumpkin spice options at Starbucks and Pret A Manger. And if you’re a regular Costa customer, you’ll notice that their Maple Hazel Latte is also £1 more expensive than last year. Ouch!
It’s also worth noting that while not included in the research, Caffe Nero also offers a Pumpkin Spice Latte at £4.35, placing it on the more expensive end of the spectrum. Meanwhile, the beloved McDonald’s McCafe doesn’t serve a Pumpkin Spice Latte.
Interestingly, the UK seems to be gripped by pumpkin spice fever even earlier this year, with many of the big coffee chains launching their autumn menus as early as August. Just two years ago, we were patiently waiting until September for our spiced coffees. But clearly, the demand for these cosy flavors is growing, leading to earlier releases every year.
Besides having the cheapest Pumpkin Spice Latte out of the big four, Greggs was also the only chain to actually drop their price. While Pret saw a 37% increase in their PSL price and Costa’s price jumped by 25%, Greggs remained steadfast in its commitment to providing a budget-friendly option.
So, as autumn settles in, grab your coziest sweater, queue up your favorite Gilmore Girls episode on Netflix, and head straight to Greggs for the most affordable and delicious Pumpkin Spice Latte around!
