In a significant move towards modernizing public transportation, Himachal Pradesh has introduced a revolutionary Integrated Ticketing Management System (IMTS). This initiative, a collaborative effort between Hitachi Payment Services, a leading provider of payment solutions, and AbhiBus, one of India’s premier bus booking platforms, brings cashless ticketing to state-run buses in the state. This makes Himachal Pradesh a pioneer in the region, embracing a fully digitalized approach to ticketing.
The IMTS aims to enhance the passenger experience and encourage cashless transactions for the over 1.5 crore passengers who rely on state transport services every month. Passengers can now seamlessly view real-time seat availability, make advance bookings, and purchase tickets online via the HRTC mobile app or website. For those preferring on-the-go ticketing, the system offers real-time ticket purchase options at HRTC bus counters and payment during the journey using GPRS-enabled Electronic Bus Ticketing Machines (EBTMs).
This innovative digital system offers a range of payment options for passengers, including debit/credit cards, UPI, QR codes, prepaid wallets, and the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC). Passengers eligible for free or concessional travel can utilize their smart card passes to receive tickets through the EBTM, which accurately records both full and concession fares, streamlining the ticketing process. Additionally, travelers can easily access the current bus timetable for any route from a specific bus stop.
This digital transformation marks a significant step forward for HRTC, revolutionizing the overall travel experience for passengers. Himachal Pradesh, known for its forward-thinking approach to technology, joins a select group of states offering fully digitalized ticketing services through its state-run transport.
