Dads Take the Stage: David Lloyd Clubs Launches ‘Daddy Ballet’ Classes

Move over, tutus, there’s a new generation of ballerinos in town – and they’re dads! David Lloyd Clubs has launched a unique initiative aimed at breaking down stereotypes and encouraging fathers to get involved in their children’s activities: ‘Daddy Ballet’ classes.

Olympic gold medalist Greg Rutherford, who participated in the class with his daughter Daphne, exemplifies the spirit of this program. He said, “I’m no stranger to dancing but having the chance to get involved with my daughter by my side has been really special. There’s no quality time like it – neither of us are experts and we can learn together. For me, it’s important to take a genuine interest in my kids’ hobbies and David Lloyd Clubs allow this to happen with its Daddy Ballet classes. I encourage dads up and down the country to join me in dusting off the dancing shoes!”

The inspiration for these classes stems from a desire to address the common struggle many dads face: finding the time to participate in activities with their children. Research by OnePoll revealed that 73% of dads wish they could take their kids to more classes, but various factors such as long work hours, tight budgets, and the allure of social media often get in the way. The average dad spends just over six hours of quality time with their children per week, and for one in five dads, this time has actually decreased over the past year. Despite these challenges, 63% of dads take their children to activities or classes weekly or even daily, with 36% actively participating in these activities.

David Lloyd Clubs is aiming to bridge this gap by offering a fun and engaging way for fathers and children to connect through ballet. Martin Evans, chief commercial officer at David Lloyd Clubs, stated: “There is a real appetite amongst dads to be more involved in their kids’ day-to-day at activities at a younger age. But there are still barriers in the way to stop them doing this and a lack of information of how they can get more involved. Having time to bond with one another during activities is so important, especially once the kids are back at school, and something we prioritize at David Lloyd Clubs.”

The classes were designed to capitalize on the heartwarming trend of dads dancing with their kids that has captivated social media. These classes are designed to be lighthearted and playful, offering a unique opportunity for fathers and children to bond while engaging in a physically and mentally stimulating activity. Ultimately, David Lloyd Clubs aims to create a positive and energetic environment where parents and children can get active and create lasting memories together. So, dads, dust off those dancing shoes and get ready to pirouette your way into a new era of father-child bonding!
