Flash Flood Warning Issued for Southern California After Heavy Rainfall

Southern California is bracing for a flash flood warning as unusual September thunderstorms unleash heavy rain and even hail across the region. The National Weather Service issued the warning for San Bernardino County, valid until 5:30 p.m., and reported up to an inch of rain already falling by Friday afternoon. The agency expects additional rainfall of 0.25 to 1.25 inches, potentially triggering flash floods in several areas.

Specific locations at risk include San Bernardino, Redlands, Yucaipa, Highland, Running Springs, and various stretches of highways like Highway 18 and Highway 330. Thunderstorm activity was also observed in the low desert areas, particularly around Palm Springs and south of Yucca Valley. Residents in Redlands and Riverside witnessed heavy rain around noon.

Following recent wildfires, there are concerns about debris flows and mudslides. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department identified unincorporated communities like Mount Baldy, Wrightwood, Big Pines, Agua Dulce, and Santa Maria as potentially vulnerable. To mitigate the risk, officials are urging residents in these areas to obtain free sandbags.

This situation is rapidly evolving, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
