Morocco’s Tourism Booms: Record Arrivals and Revenue Surge in 2024

Morocco’s tourism sector is experiencing a phenomenal surge in 2024, showcasing the country’s resilience and growth potential. According to the Ministry of Tourism, foreign currency revenue from tourism reached an impressive MAD 59.4 billion ($6.12 billion) in the first seven months of this year. This represents a significant 3.5% increase compared to the same period in 2023, translating to an additional MAD 2 billion in revenue. This steady rise highlights the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to bolster Morocco’s position as a top travel destination.

Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor, speaking in Rabat, underscored the positive trend, emphasizing that the surge in revenue is directly linked to an influx of tourists. Between July and August alone, Morocco welcomed a record 4.4 million visitors, representing a remarkable 21% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This impressive influx underscores the success of government strategies aimed at attracting tourists, even during traditionally busy summer months.

The first eight months of 2024 have seen an unprecedented 11.8 million tourist arrivals, exceeding last year’s figures by 1.6 million. This milestone is a testament to Morocco’s growing appeal and the effectiveness of its tourism policies focused on enhancing visitor experience and accessibility.

These achievements are a direct result of Morocco’s strategic roadmap for 2023-2026, launched in March of last year. This roadmap emphasizes the importance of expanding air connectivity and bolstering marketing efforts to attract visitors from around the world. The government’s targeted approach aims to solidify Morocco’s position as a leading global tourist destination.

With a goal of welcoming over 17.5 million tourists by 2026, Morocco is well on its way to achieving this ambitious target. Minister Ammor expressed confidence that this objective is now “closer than ever,” thanks to the concerted efforts and the promising growth trajectory witnessed in the tourism sector. The continued commitment to promoting tourism promises a bright future for Morocco’s economy and its standing as a top global travel destination.
