Mohammedan Sporting Held to 1-1 Draw by FC Goa in ISL 2024-25

Mohammedan Sporting kicked off their Indian Super League 2024-25 campaign with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against FC Goa at the Kishore Bharati Stadium on Saturday. The Black Panthers showed significant improvement from their defensive approach in the opening match against NorthEast United FC, displaying a relentless attacking style that kept Goa on their toes.

The first half saw Mohammedan Sporting dominate possession and create numerous scoring opportunities. Their Brazilian forward, Franca, came close in the 14th minute, only to see his shot saved by Goa’s experienced goalkeeper, Laxmikanth Kattimani. The hosts showcased impressive movement and coordination, utilizing the flanks effectively to test Kattimani throughout the opening period.

Mohammedan Sporting continued their relentless assault in the second half, finally breaking the deadlock in the 64th minute. A penalty was awarded after Goa’s Spanish defender, Odei Onaindia, fouled Alexis Gomez inside the box. Gomez stepped up confidently and converted the penalty, giving Mohammedan Sporting the lead.

Despite having two more opportunities to extend their advantage, the Black Panthers failed to find the insurance goal, which ultimately cost them dearly. In the final moments of the match, FC Goa snatched a point thanks to a late equalizer from Armando Sadiku. Substitute Aakash Sangwan provided the assist with a clever cross, leaving Mohammedan Sporting disappointed after seemingly controlling the game.

While Mohammedan Sporting will be disappointed to have conceded the equalizer in injury time, the performance against FC Goa highlighted their progress and attacking intent. The Black Panthers will look to build on this positive display as they continue their journey in the ISL 2024-25 season.
