Liverpool roared back from a humiliating defeat to Nottingham Forest the previous week with a dominant 3-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday. The Reds showcased their attacking prowess in the first half, scoring three goals in quick succession to leave Bournemouth reeling. Winger Luis Diaz was the star of the show, bagging a brace within three minutes, while Darwin Nunez scored his first Premier League goal of the season.
Manager Arne Slot was pleased with the aggression and attacking intent displayed by his side. “It wasn’t as easy as the score might show,” Slot said. “Bournemouth were in the game, despite being 3-0 down, they just kept going, kept going to the end, you don’t see that a lot.” Slot emphasized the importance of his team’s strong start and their ability to maintain their defensive solidity throughout the match.
“I liked a lot the way we started the game, we were really aggressive, we created enough chances already before we scored the first, and we kept defending really strongly until the end, which was necessary,” he added.
Slot was especially impressed with how his team implemented their game plan, particularly in the build-up play from the back. “Especially the way we build up from the back, the number of times we were able to find a free player in the midfield – in the second half it happened a lot, but in the first half it led to chances,” he explained.
While Slot acknowledged that his team is still in a phase of transition as he seeks to instill his playing style, he highlighted the progress they are making on the training ground. “That’s why we’re working on the training ground, to get the best out of the team, and as a result of that also from the individuals – they have to understand that everyone is related to each other,” Slot said.
