Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Condemns Tirupati Laddu Controversy, Calls for Strict Action

Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar expressed deep concern and outrage over the recent revelation regarding the alleged use of animal fat and substandard ingredients in the preparation of Tirupati Laddu prasadam. In a statement to ANI, he drew parallels to the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny, emphasizing the deep wound inflicted on Hindu sentiments by this act.

He declared, “This is an unforgivable act, driven by malice and greed. Those involved must be punished severely, their assets seized, and they must face imprisonment. This is not just about the laddu; we must examine every food product. What about the ghee in the market? Who is ensuring its purity? Strict action must be taken against anyone adulterating food, especially those claiming vegetarian products while using non-vegetarian ingredients.”

Ravi Shankar further advocated for a significant shift in temple management, calling for greater religious oversight. He proposed a committee composed of saints, swamis, and spiritual leaders from both North and South India, to oversee temple operations. He suggested a minimal role for government representatives, with major decisions and supervision resting with religious bodies like the SGPC, Muslim bodies, and Christian organizations.

This controversy erupted following reports alleging the use of animal fat in the laddus at Sri Venkateshwara Swamy Temple in Tirupati. Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu accused the previous YSR Congress-led government of using animal fat in the laddus, fueling public outrage and calls for accountability.
