The Original Factory Shop Closes Deal Branch Amidst High Street Woes

The Original Factory Shop (TOFS), a major bargain chain with 187 branches across the UK, has announced the closure of its Deal, Kent branch. The store, a beloved fixture in the town center, will shut its doors for good on Saturday, September 28th. The news comes as a blow to local shoppers, who have frequented the store for its affordable deals and wide selection of goods. One shopper lamented, “Such a shame. It was affordable and you could always get something good.” Another expressed concern about the future of the site, commenting, “Now probably destined for townhouses and artisanal deli’s selling £4 sourdough bread.”

This closure adds to a growing list of retail shutdowns that have plagued British high streets in recent months. New Look, Beales, Clarks, WHSmith, Pizza Hut, and Bonmarché are among the brands that have recently closed locations. The Original Factory Shop’s decision to close its Deal branch is attributed to the redevelopment of the building, leaving the chain unable to renew its lease.

While the closure is a disappointment for the local community, The Original Factory Shop remains committed to its presence in Kent. A spokesperson for the company stated, “After the landlord informed us that they were redeveloping our Deal store, we were unable to renew the lease.” They continued, “We want to remain in town and our property team would consider any alternative suitable sites. We are working hard to support all of those colleagues that will be affected and seeking to redeploy them across our business.”

Following the Deal store’s closure, three The Original Factory Shop branches will remain in Kent: Tenterden, Biggin Hill, and Headcorn. Despite the recent closures, The Original Factory Shop maintains a significant presence nationwide, with hundreds of stores continuing to operate across the UK.
