India Aims for 2036 Olympics: PM Modi’s Vision and Preparations

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared the nation’s ambitious goal of hosting the 2036 Olympic Games. He has repeatedly expressed this vision, most recently during a speech to the Indian diaspora in New York. Modi emphasized, “Only a few days ago, the Paris Olympics concluded. Very soon, you will witness the Olympics in India too. We are putting in all possible efforts to host the 2036 Olympics.”

This ambition is fueled by India’s successful hosting of the G20 Summit in New Delhi last September. The summit showcased India’s existing infrastructure and its capability to handle large-scale events. “India organizing the G20 Summit on a large scale has proven that India has the capability to organize large-scale events,” Modi said during his Independence Day speech.

The Prime Minister’s vision for the 2036 Olympics is not merely a dream but a well-defined plan. He has urged athletes to share their feedback on the arrangements in Paris to help shape the government’s strategy for hosting the Games. “We are hoping to host the Olympics in 2036, it will help in creating a sporting atmosphere (in the country). Work is in progress to prepare infrastructure for it,” he told Indian athletes.

India’s bold proposal has received crucial support from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach. This backing, coupled with India’s recent successes in international events and the rising sporting talent within the nation, strengthens the bid.

Ahmedabad is currently emerging as a potential venue for the Games, showcasing India’s commitment to hosting a world-class sporting spectacle. With the government’s dedication and the growing sporting infrastructure, India is well positioned to realize its Olympic dream and bring the prestigious event to its shores in 2036.
