AM Green Invests $1 Billion to Accelerate Global Bio-Refinery Platform and Produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel

AM Green Technology and Solutions B.V., a leading global provider of energy transition solutions, is making a significant move towards a more sustainable future. The company has announced the acquisition of Chempolis Oy and Fortum 3 B.V., a strategic move designed to accelerate their vision for a global bio-refinery platform. This acquisition represents a major investment in green technology and its potential to revolutionize various industries.

Over the next three years, AM Green plans to invest approximately $1 billion to establish large-scale bio-refineries, with a primary focus on producing more than 0.5 million tons per annum (MTPA) of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). SAF is a critical component in the decarbonization of the aviation industry, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional jet fuel.

The acquisition of Chempolis Oy, a pioneer in lignocellulosic feedstock processing with over 15 years of research and technology expertise, is a key factor in AM Green’s ambitious plans. Chempolis’ technology allows for the processing of multiple 2G (second-generation) waste feedstocks, creating a range of high-value green products such as ethanol, furfural, and pure lignin. These products are essential for reducing carbon footprints not only in aviation but also in fuels, chemicals, and other industrial sectors.

AM Green aims to establish a robust bio-refinery ecosystem through a global licensing model based on Chempolis’ technology. This approach will accelerate global energy transitions by setting up bio-refineries worldwide to meet the growing demands for decarbonization across various industries.

AM Green’s $1 billion investment will primarily focus on developing Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ) SAF plants, with a target production capacity of over 0.5 MTPA by 2027. This significant production of SAF will play a vital role in supporting the global airline industry’s ongoing efforts to reduce carbon emissions and achieve sustainability goals.

Group Chairman Anil Chalamalasetty commented on the acquisition, stating, “We are thrilled to partner with Chempolis to drive forward the use of 2G lignocellulosic feedstocks. This acquisition demonstrates our commitment to innovative, technology-enabled solutions and the establishment of bio-refineries that will revolutionize the production of high-value green products.”

Beyond SAF production, AM Green recognizes the vast potential of Chempolis’ technology in downstream applications. The green products produced by these bio-refineries have diverse applications across consumer and industrial sectors, opening doors to multiple green-chemical value chains. The technology’s adaptability to various feedstocks makes it suitable for diverse industries requiring sustainable, high-value materials.

This strategic acquisition and significant investment by AM Green represent a major step towards a more sustainable future. By establishing a global network of bio-refineries, AM Green aims to contribute significantly to the decarbonization of key industries, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting a cleaner, greener world.
