Coldplay’s highly anticipated return to India after a nine-year absence has sparked a frenzy among fans, leading to skyrocketing ticket prices and a scramble for accommodation. The British band’s upcoming concert at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai has created a demand that has sent prices soaring, with five-star hotels near the venue charging astronomical rates.
Hotels within a 20-kilometer radius of the stadium are charging almost ₹1 lakh per night for a room, with many fully booked. Popular hotel chains like Courtyard by Marriott and Taj Vivanta have no rooms available during the concert dates, according to MakeMyTrip. Available rooms at other hotels are starting at ₹1 lakh per night. For instance, The Park hotel, located just 2.18 kilometers from the stadium, is charging ₹85,849 per night, as per Skyscanner. Marriott Executive Apartments, a bit further away, is charging ₹70,000 per night for January 18-20. Even further away, in Turbhe, Fern Residency is charging almost ₹2 lakh for a room for two people for three nights during the Coldplay show.
The initial frenzy for tickets resulted in a complete sellout within minutes, with many fans turning to third-party sources to secure their place at the concert. Recognizing the overwhelming demand, Coldplay announced a third show on January 21, 2025. “Due to phenomenal demand, a third Mumbai date has been added at DY Patil Stadium for 21 January 2025. Tickets on sale at 2 PM IST today,” Coldplay announced on X. However, even with the additional date, finding accommodation remains a challenge, with most five-star hotels fully booked, except for the Royal Tulip Hotel. A four-star hotel, Country Inn and Suites by Radisson in Navi Mumbai, is charging ₹53,000 per night during the concert period.
The frenzy surrounding the concert has unfortunately attracted scammers, leading to illegal ticket sales. To combat this, BookMyShow and its live events division, BookMyShow Live, issued a joint statement on Instagram, warning fans about potential scams. “It has come to our attention that unauthorised platforms are listing tickets for Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India, both before and after the official sale. These tickets are invalid. Ticket scalping is illegal in India and punishable by law. Please don’t fall prey to this because you will be buying fake tickets. Avoid scams! BookMyShow is the only official platform for ticket sales,” announced the ticketing platform.
