GenCell Secures Major Order from CFE, Mexico’s Largest Utility, for Hydrogen-Powered Backup Power

GenCell Energy, a global leader in hydrogen-to-power solutions, has secured a major order from Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), Mexico’s state-owned utility and the largest in North America. This latest order, valued at US$4.4 million, marks a significant expansion of GenCell’s partnership with CFE, further solidifying the company’s position as a key player in the transition to cleaner energy.

The order involves the purchase and deployment of dozens of GenCell REX™ backup power units, which will be strategically placed across a broad territory within Mexico. These units, previously deployed in a pilot project, have already proven their effectiveness in providing weather-resilient, zero-emission, and long-duration Tier One backup power to CFE’s substations. GenCell’s commitment to delivering clean, reliable, and uninterrupted power is clearly reflected in this project.

The GenCell REX units are equipped with the company’s proprietary AI-driven energy management software, GenCell GEMS™, including the GenCell GEMS Community™ application. This advanced software enables centralized remote management and monitoring of all REX units and related equipment, ensuring optimal performance and system efficiency. The system has also been designed to meet strict cybersecurity standards (OWASP Top 10) and regulatory requirements, guaranteeing a secure and reliable power supply for CFE.

This multi-phase project is a testament to the trust and confidence that CFE has placed in GenCell’s technology. The company, in collaboration with local partner Gncell Energy de Mexico, aims to complete the rollout of these units by 2025. This will not only enhance the resilience of CFE’s distribution network but also contribute significantly to their goal of transitioning to a cleaner energy future.

Rami Reshef, co-founder and CEO of GenCell, expressed his enthusiasm about the continued partnership, stating, “We are honored and pleased to continue our partnership with CFE and to reach this exciting stage of the project, involving the professional rollout of dozens of units across Mexico and executing deep knowledge transfer to the CFE team. We are proud to contribute to the crucial resilience of CFE’s distribution network and to the utility’s ability to transition to a clean reliable energy future.”

Reshef also highlighted the importance of this project in demonstrating the potential of GenCell’s technology to address global energy challenges. He emphasized, “We salute CFE’s adoption of our innovative technologies to advance towards net-zero standards, grid hardening and energy security in full alignment with our GreenFSG™ vision for the future of energy based on zero-emission circular economies delivering long-duration clean power anywhere.”

GenCell’s commitment to providing clean and reliable power solutions extends beyond this project. The company develops a range of GreenFSG™ power solutions based on alkaline fuel cells, utilizing Hydrogen2Power™, Ammonia2Power™, and Water2Power® technologies. These solutions provide uninterrupted power for various applications, including utilities, telecom, EV charging, and mission-critical infrastructure.

The company’s ability to not only produce clean power but also the green fuel on which the fuel cells run, positions GenCell as a well-to-wheel total green energy solution provider. With deployments in 23 countries, GenCell’s innovative solutions are helping to shape a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
