airBaltic and Pratt & Whitney Partner for Long-Term Engine Maintenance

Latvia’s national airline, airBaltic, has solidified a long-term partnership with Pratt & Whitney, a subsidiary of RTX, for comprehensive engine maintenance services. This agreement, known as EngineWiseTM, will support airBaltic’s expanding fleet of GTF engines, which power the airline’s Airbus A220-300 aircraft.

The partnership focuses on aligning maintenance costs with the utilization of airBaltic’s engines, offering the airline greater transparency and predictability in its operational expenditures. This financial stability plays a crucial role in supporting airBaltic’s ambitious growth strategy, which aims to reach a fleet of 100 A220-300 aircraft by 2030.

“Pratt & Whitney has been a trusted partner for airBaltic since we became the global launch operator of the Airbus A220-300 in 2016,” stated Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic. “The A220’s PW1500G GTF engines have reduced fuel burn per seat by 25%, driving significant cost savings. This agreement ensures our continued growth as we move towards a fleet of 100 A220-300 aircraft by 2030. We are excited for many more years of successful collaboration with Pratt & Whitney.”

This 17-year agreement not only provides long-term support for airBaltic’s expanding fleet but also ensures the airline’s ability to effectively maintain its expanding route network, connecting passengers to destinations worldwide.

Rick Deurloo, President of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney, expressed his company’s commitment to optimizing airBaltic’s fleet performance. “We are committed to optimizing airBaltic’s fleet performance. The GTF engine offers industry-leading fuel efficiency, reduced carbon emissions, and a smaller noise footprint. Together, we aim to enhance air travel while minimizing environmental impact.” This commitment to sustainable aviation aligns with airBaltic’s own goals for environmentally conscious operations.

The partnership between airBaltic and Pratt & Whitney highlights the importance of strong industry collaborations in ensuring the future of sustainable and efficient air travel. This agreement demonstrates both companies’ dedication to innovation, cost-effectiveness, and environmental responsibility in the aviation sector.
