Mumbai’s Ambitious Plan: Seven Ring Roads to Transform City Travel

Mumbai, the bustling metropolis known for its traffic woes, is poised for a major transformation with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) unveiling ambitious plans to construct seven ring roads across the city. This massive project, spanning a total of 90.18 km, aims to revolutionize travel within the city and drastically reduce travel time to a mere hour.

The proposed ring roads, which will cost a staggering ₹58,517 crore, will not only improve connectivity but also serve as the backbone for a broader infrastructure development plan. This plan includes significant investments in metro lines, bridges, flyovers, and slum development, with a projected total cost of ₹3 lakh crore. 1. First Ring Road:

This route connects Nariman Point to Coastal Road, Worli Sewri Connector, Eastern Freeway, Orange Gate Tunnel, and back to Nariman Point.

2. Second Ring Road:

Starting at Nariman Point, it travels through Bandra Worli Sea Link, Western Express Highway (WEH), Santacruz Chembur Link Road, Eastern Express Highway (EEH), Eastern Freeway, Orange Gate Tunnel, and returns to Nariman Point.

3. Third Ring Road:

This route begins at Nariman Point and passes through Bandra Worli Sea Link, WEH, Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR), Kanjurmarg Junction, Eastern Freeway Extension, Eastern Freeway, Orange Gate Tunnel, and back to Nariman Point.

4. Fourth Ring Road:

The route starts at Nariman Point and goes through Bandra Worli Sea Link, Versova Bandra Sea Link, Versova Dahisar Link Road, Goregaon Mulund Link Road, Eastern Freeway Extension, Eastern Freeway, Orange Gate Tunnel, and returns to Nariman Point.

5. Fifth Ring Road:

This route begins at Nariman Point and travels through Bandra Worli Sea Link, Versova Dahisar Link Road, Bhayander, Fountain Hotel Connector, Gaimukh, Ghodbunder Tunnel, Thane Coastal Road, Anand Nagar, Saket Flyover, Eastern Freeway Extension, Orange Gate Tunnel, and returns to Nariman Point.

6. Sixth Ring Road:

The route begins at Nariman Point and travels through Versova Bandra Sea Link, Mira Bhayander Link Road, Alibaug Virar Corridor, Thane Coastal Road, Anand Nagar Saket Flyover, Eastern Express Highway, Eastern Freeway, Orange Gate Tunnel, and returns to Nariman Point.

7. Seventh Outer Ring Road:

The outermost ring road starts at Nariman Point and travels through Versova Dahisar Bhayander Link Road, Uttan Link Road, Vadodara Mumbai Expressway, Alibaug Virar Multi Modal Corridor, Atal Setu via JNPT, Orange Gate Tunnel, and returns to Nariman Point.
