Get ready to see a new side of some familiar faces in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first teaser trailer for Marvel Studios’ ‘Thunderbolts’ has dropped, and it introduces a team of antiheroes forced to work together on a dangerous mission.
The trailer opens with a chilling declaration from Yelena Belova/Black Widow, played by Florence Pugh, “Everyone here has done bad things.” We then see a glimpse of the team in action, including John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and a mysterious character named Bob (Lewis Pullman), believed to be Sentry. These five, along with Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), are all brought together by the American government, facing a perilous task.
The mastermind behind this unconventional team? Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), the director of the CIA. She delivers a memorable line that sets the tone for the film: “There are bad guys, and there are worse guys. And nothing else.”
Based on the comic series by Kurt Busiek and Mark Bagley, ‘Thunderbolts’ is directed by Jake Schreier and written by Eric Pearson, Lee Sung Jin, and Joanna Calo. The film is produced by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.
‘Thunderbolts’ is set to be the first movie in the MCU since ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, which was released in July 2024. The film is the first of four scheduled MCU movies in 2025, including ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, and ‘Blade’. ‘Thunderbolts’ is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 2, 2025.
