LG Spotlights Endangered Galapagos Sea Lions on Times Square Billboard

LG Electronics is shining a spotlight on the plight of the Galapagos sea lion, the third animal featured in its captivating 3D anamorphic experience on the iconic Times Square billboard in New York City. The campaign, highlighting vulnerable and endangered species, aims to educate the public about the threats facing these creatures, including plastic pollution.

The Galapagos sea lion, designated as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), faces a growing risk due to plastic pollution in its habitat. This campaign underscores the importance of conservation efforts to protect these majestic creatures.

LG’s Endangered Species Series, running throughout 2024, collaborates with Discovery Education and the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) to educate students from kindergarten to 12th grade on conservation initiatives.

Since its launch in April, the campaign has been a captivating spectacle in Times Square, showcasing endangered and recovered species in stunning 3D. The earlier installments featured the snow leopard and the bald eagle, each appearing to extend out of the billboard, captivating viewers with their realistic portrayal.

To complement the Times Square display, LG is hosting a K-12 educational series, providing students with a deeper understanding of endangered animals and their role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. This engaging program encourages students to appreciate the unique qualities of each species and become advocates for their protection. Free, standards-aligned digital resources are available through a partnership with Discovery Education at http://Endangered-species-series.discoveryeducation.com.

LG’s commitment to conservation extends beyond the Times Square campaign. The company has pledged $150,000 to support the National Wildlife Federation’s EcoSchools U.S. and EcoLeaders programs, which aim to inspire future generations of conservationists and address both the extinction crisis and climate change.

In partnership with the National Wildlife Federation, LG is making 150 symbolic adoptions of Galapagos sea lions and providing biodegradable plushes to the NWF’s Plastic Pollution Avengers in New York. This group of middle and high school students is dedicated to cleaning up the Long Island Sound, one of the largest estuaries in the United States.

LG’s commitment to conservation goes beyond raising awareness. The company encourages individuals to support environmental education and wildlife habitat programs by symbolically adopting a sea lion and taking the National Wildlife Federation’s quiz on plastic pollution’s impact on marine environments.

Through this initiative, LG seeks to inspire action, reminding everyone that we have a collective responsibility to protect our planet and its inhabitants. You can learn more about LG’s commitment to conservationism and environmental stewardship at www.lg.com/us/sustainability.
