In the critical swing state of North Carolina, Republicans are pulling out all the stops to secure victory in the 2024 presidential election. Their strategy is a blend of sophisticated data analysis and old-fashioned, boots-on-the-ground campaigning. While the state has leaned Republican in the past three presidential elections, the margins have been razor-thin, with former President Trump winning by a mere 4% in 2016 and 1% in 2020.
Jason Simmons, chair of the North Carolina Republican Party, emphasizes the importance of engaging directly with voters. “We’ve been very engaged with all of our grassroots activists and have a very enthusiastic response. People are fired up,” Simmons told Fox News Digital. “They’re out there every day knocking [on] doors, making phone calls, talking to the voters of North Carolina about the issues that matter most.”
The party is also leveraging data to identify and target specific voters. “It’s really drilling down into the data and identifying those voters that we know will vote our way, especially the low- to mid-propensity voters, by getting in front of them and talking to them about those issues that matter most to them and then encouraging them to make that plan and to go vote,” Simmons explained.
According to Simmons, the economy, inflation, and the southern border are the most pressing concerns for North Carolina voters. To capitalize on this, Republicans are investing heavily in encouraging early voting. Dallas Woodhouse, state director for the conservative training outfit, American Majority, believes this approach could benefit the GOP. “We have field teams out right now educating conservative voters about the importance of actually voting early, voting by mail in North Carolina, how it is safe to vote by mail. We’re trying to turn around some of the trends that were difficult for conservatives in 2020 and 2022,” Woodhouse said.
By Election Day, American Majority aims to have knocked on half a million doors, reached a million voters by phone, and communicated with a million and a half through text messages. This massive effort demonstrates the GOP’s commitment to reaching every eligible voter.
The race for the presidency in North Carolina is anticipated to be extremely tight, with both former President Trump and Vice President Harris actively campaigning across the state.
Meanwhile, Mark Robinson, North Carolina’s lieutenant governor and the Republican gubernatorial candidate, has faced recent scrutiny after CNN reported allegations of past salacious comments, including referring to himself as a “Black Nazi.” While his campaign released a statement acknowledging departures from senior staff, Simmons maintains that it’s ultimately up to Robinson to address the controversy directly with voters.
With just weeks remaining until the election, both sides are working tirelessly to secure their victory in this crucial battleground state. The outcome of North Carolina’s vote could significantly impact the final results of the 2024 presidential race.
