Adventure Travel Conservation Auction Returns for World Tourism Day

Every year on World Tourism Day, the Adventure Travel Conservation Fund (ATCF) shines a spotlight on the deep connection between adventurous travel and the critical work of conservation. This year, the ATCF is back with its 2024 Travel Conservation Auction, running from September 27th to October 16th, offering travelers a unique opportunity to explore the world while actively contributing to its protection.

This auction is a powerful force behind the ATCF’s mission, having already funded nearly $600,000 in conservation projects across the globe. As the largest adventure travel and gear auction worldwide, it allows participants to secure exclusive trips and gear, all while directly supporting vital conservation initiatives.

“In just over six years, we’ve awarded over $585,000 to 39 projects in 28 countries,” said Steve Barker, ATCF Board Chair and founder of Eagle Creek. This year, the goal is even more ambitious: to raise $100,000 to fund projects spanning wildlife conservation, community empowerment, and more, across the globe. Last year’s auction set a record by raising $60,000, doubling the previous year’s amount, and this year’s auction is poised to surpass even those achievements.

The funds raised from last year’s auction supported a diverse range of projects, from protecting wildlife in Africa to empowering indigenous communities in Latin America. “This auction isn’t just about bidding on incredible experiences; it’s about investing in a future where tourism sustains the places we love,” said Soraya Shattuck, Executive Director of ATCF.

This year, 12 grant finalists are tackling a variety of urgent environmental and cultural challenges, including:

*

Protecting endangered species:

Several projects focus on safeguarding endangered wildlife like mountain gorillas, sea turtles, and tigers.

*

Supporting indigenous communities:

Projects aim to empower indigenous communities by promoting sustainable tourism practices and preserving traditional cultural knowledge.

*

Combating climate change:

Initiatives are being launched to address the impacts of climate change, such as restoring degraded forests and promoting sustainable agriculture.

Participants in the auction have the extraordinary opportunity to directly contribute to these and many other global conservation efforts. The 2024 Travel Conservation Auction offers travelers the chance to bid on exciting trips and gear, including:

*

Adventure expeditions:

From trekking in Nepal to diving in the Great Barrier Reef, the auction features once-in-a-lifetime adventures in some of the world’s most breathtaking destinations.

*

Unique travel experiences:

Immerse yourself in local culture with homestays, volunteer opportunities, and culinary tours.

*

High-quality gear:

The auction kicks off on World Tourism Day, and participants are encouraged to bid early to secure their favorite items. Every bid helps protect the incredible destinations we all love.
