Amcor, a global leader in developing and producing responsible packaging solutions, has taken a major step towards a sustainable future. The company’s long-term carbon reduction targets, aiming for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2050, have received approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This validation signifies Amcor’s commitment to combating climate change through responsible packaging practices.
Amcor’s comprehensive approach to reducing its environmental impact involves significant absolute reductions in Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. These emissions encompass various aspects of the company’s operations, including energy usage, transportation, waste management, and the end-of-life treatment of sold products. The ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, with fiscal year 2022 serving as the baseline, demonstrates Amcor’s dedication to long-term sustainability.
The approval of these long-term targets complements Amcor’s existing near-term goals, which were confirmed earlier in 2024. These near-term targets are aligned with a 1.5-degree Celsius trajectory, aiming for a 54.6% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions and a 32.5% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by fiscal year 2033.
Amcor’s Chief Sustainability Officer, David Clark, expressed the company’s delight at the validation of their long-term targets. “These targets are an integral component of our sustainability strategy and reflect our commitment to delivering packaging that safeguards products, minimizes environmental impact and supports our customers in their decarbonization ambitions,” stated Clark.

Amcor’s dedication to sustainability is a testament to its leadership in the packaging industry. The company’s ambitious goals and commitment to responsible practices are setting a high standard for others to follow in the pursuit of a more sustainable future.
