Rain Drenches Day 1 of India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test in Kanpur

The first day of the second Test match between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur was unfortunately washed out by rain after just 35 overs of play. The day’s action was cut short midway through the second session due to poor light followed by a downpour.

Bangladesh, who were sent in to bat by Indian captain Rohit Sharma on a green, overcast pitch, reached 107 for the loss of three wickets before the weather intervened. The opening pair of Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam weathered an early spell from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, successfully blocking the fiery Indian pace attack.

The breakthrough finally came in the first over bowled by Akash Deep, with the right-arm pacer removing Zakir Hasan for 24. Akash Deep then went on to dismiss Shadman Islam for 24 in the same over, getting the crucial decision in his favor after a successful review.

Mominul Haque and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto then steadied the ship for Bangladesh with a brief partnership, building a strong foundation before lunch. However, the Indian spin maestro Ravichandran Ashwin struck after the break, trapping the Bangladesh captain in front to break the partnership.

As the light deteriorated, the match was unfortunately brought to a halt. Mominul Haque and veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim will resume their partnership on Day 2, hoping to build a strong base for Bangladesh in the second innings.
