Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira will be sidelined from the Indonesian Grand Prix after a nasty crash during Friday’s practice session at Mandalika. Oliveira, currently 14th in the riders’ standings, suffered a fracture to his right wrist in the incident. The crash, which occurred at turn four, saw Oliveira unable to walk away from the scene and requiring assistance from medical personnel.
Trackhouse Racing, Oliveira’s team, confirmed the injury and revealed that he is undergoing a three-dimensional CT scan at a hospital in Mataram to determine if surgery is necessary. The team’s statement said, “Miguel suffered a fracture of the right wrist. He is undergoing a three-dimensional CT scan in the hospital in Mataram to evaluate the need for surgery.”
The incident happened during a practice session that saw eight riders break the previous lap record. Ultimately, it was Ducati’s Enea Bastianini who emerged as the fastest rider, clocking a time of one minute and 29.630 seconds. Bastianini, who triumphed in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix last weekend, will now be looking to maintain his strong form and challenge for victory in Indonesia.
