The DC Universe is gearing up for another exciting addition, and this time, it’s the highly anticipated series ‘Lanterns’. The show, based on the iconic DC Comics characters, is set to feature a dynamic duo of intergalactic cops – Hal Jordan and John Stewart – as they delve into a murder mystery in the heartland of America.
And according to The Hollywood Reporter, the role of John Stewart is quickly narrowing down to two talented actors: Aaron Pierre and Stephan James. Pierre, who recently starred in the action-packed ‘Rebel Ridge’ on Netflix, is certainly no stranger to the superhero genre, having previously played Dev-Em in Syfy’s ‘Krypton’. James, on the other hand, is recognized for his roles in shows like ‘Homecoming’ and the critically acclaimed film ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’.
While it’s still unclear if the actors are currently auditioning or simply being considered, the report suggests a decision is expected by the end of the week.
The casting news comes as a major development for the series, following the announcement that Kyle Chandler is set to play Hal Jordan, the seasoned Green Lantern. With both leads nearing confirmation, the project is steadily taking shape.
Co-CEOs of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safra, have described ‘Lanterns’ as a high-quality, ‘True Detective’-style event series that will be a significant part of the DC Universe’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The series, which was greenlit for HBO Max in June, is being written and executive produced by Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen), and comic book writer Tom King. Mundy will serve as the showrunner.
‘Lanterns’ promises to be a thrilling addition to the DC Universe, offering a fresh take on the iconic Green Lantern characters and exploring themes of crime, mystery, and intergalactic law enforcement. With a stellar cast and a talented creative team behind it, the series has the potential to become a standout entry in the DC universe.
