Tamil Nadu Celebrates World Tourism Day with Grand Events in Nilgiris

The Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu buzzed with excitement on Friday as it celebrated World Tourism Day with a series of events. The festivities were led by K. Ramachandran, the state’s Tourism Minister, who participated in a grand procession through Udhagamandalam. During his address, Minister Ramachandran highlighted the Tamil Nadu government’s ambitious plans for tourism development, emphasizing the commitment to promoting twelve distinct tourism categories, including beach tourism, medical tourism, and rural tourism.

The celebrations continued at the Government Botanical Garden (GBG) where District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru visited to assess the floral displays prepared for the upcoming second tourist season in the Nilgiris. To further enhance the visitor experience, the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) and the NHRA set up a vibrant food court near the GBG, offering a delectable array of local flavors.

Adding a touch of environmental awareness to the day, Bisleri International Private Limited, in collaboration with the Nilgiris district administration and JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, organized a “Bottles for Change” clean-up drive at Doddabetta Peak. This initiative aimed to promote responsible tourism and raise awareness about the importance of preserving the natural beauty of the region.

World Tourism Day in the Nilgiris showcased a vibrant blend of cultural celebration, tourism promotion, and environmental consciousness. The events served as a strong testament to Tamil Nadu’s dedication to fostering a thriving tourism sector while prioritizing sustainability and preserving the state’s natural heritage.
