Madhya Pradesh is taking a significant step towards strengthening its healthcare system with the announcement of a major recruitment drive. Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla declared on Sunday that the state government will hire a massive 30,000 health professionals, including 3,000 doctors, to improve healthcare services across the state.
This initiative, spearheaded by Shukla who also heads the health department, aims to address the critical shortage of medical staff plaguing the state. The recruitment drive will focus on filling vacancies in district hospitals and health centers at both the community and primary levels. Shukla emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that, “Once a sufficient number of doctors and paramedical staff are available, the arrangements in the district hospitals as well as community and primary health centres will improve.”
The announcement comes amidst a nationwide shortage of medical personnel, particularly in rural areas. A report by the Union Health Ministry in September highlighted the severity of the issue, revealing a nearly 70% shortage of specialist doctors in rural health centers. The situation is particularly dire for surgeons, with a staggering 73% vacancy rate. In Madhya Pradesh alone, the report found that only seven surgeons are currently serving against 332 sanctioned posts.
Beyond healthcare, Shukla also shed light on the state’s commitment to industrial growth. He revealed that Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will host the Regional Industry Conclave in Rewa on October 23. This event is expected to attract significant investments, fostering industrial development not just in Rewa but across the Vindhya region.
In further news for Rewa, Shukla mentioned that the city’s airport is nearing completion. The state government is working to establish direct flight connections to major cities like Bhopal, Indore, and Hyderabad, aiming to improve connectivity and boost regional development. These initiatives demonstrate the Madhya Pradesh government’s commitment to improving both healthcare and economic prosperity within the state.
