Tourism Malaysia is celebrating a significant milestone in regional connectivity as Batik Air launches its inaugural flights from Krabi and Hat Yai, Thailand. These new routes, OD587 and OD589, mark a major step in strengthening tourism ties between Malaysia and Thailand, particularly between their secondary cities. This move will not only boost tourism but also expand Batik Air’s presence in the Thai market.
The daily flights, operated by Airbus A320 aircraft, complement Batik Air’s existing routes from Bangkok and Phuket, making it easier than ever for Thai travelers to explore Malaysia. Representatives from Tourism Malaysia, Batik Air, and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) warmly welcomed the 260 passengers on the inaugural flights, emphasizing the significance of this moment in regional travel expansion.
Thailand remains a crucial target market for Malaysia, alongside major tourist destinations like China, India, Indonesia, and Australia. These new direct routes are a testament to the robust collaboration between Tourism Malaysia and Batik Air, both of whom are committed to the ambitious goals of the ‘Visit Malaysia 2026’ initiative. This national campaign aims to attract a remarkable 35.6 million international tourists and generate RM147.1 billion in tourism revenue.
Now, travelers from Krabi and Hat Yai have seamless access to Malaysia’s diverse attractions, including iconic landmarks like the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, the pristine beaches of Langkawi, and the rich cultural heritage of Melaka. These new routes offer visitors an opportunity to delve into Malaysia’s historical landmarks, vibrant culture, and world-renowned culinary experiences.
Tourism Malaysia remains dedicated to attracting more Thai tourists to its shores. Through strategic partnerships and collaborations with both domestic and international airlines, the organization aims to strengthen its presence in key markets and ensure a smooth travel experience for visitors from Thailand.
