Tesla is bringing its ‘Actually Smart Summon’ feature to older Model S and X vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2024. This was announced by Ashok Elluswamy, Director of Autopilot software at Tesla, on the social media platform X.
The feature was initially rolled out to newer model years of the vehicles in early September. However, older vehicle owners have been eagerly awaiting its arrival. ‘Actually Smart Summon’ is the latest iteration of the smart summon feature, which was removed in 2022 when Tesla stopped using ultrasonic sensors and opted for cameras to provide driver assistance features.
With ‘Actually Smart Summon,’ Tesla owners can summon their vehicles to a nearby location within a parking lot using the Tesla app. Once they’re finished with the car, they can easily dismiss it through the app as well.
Tesla’s commitment to bringing this feature to older models demonstrates its dedication to providing advanced technology to a wider range of its vehicles. In September, the company also deployed parking assistance features and its full self-driving (FSD) driver assistance software on its latest EV offering, the Cybertruck.
It’s important to note that while the name implies full autonomy, Tesla’s FSD software does not enable autonomous driving and still requires active driver supervision.
