Bollywood star Govinda, known for his energetic dance moves and comedic roles, experienced a frightening incident on Tuesday morning. While preparing to leave his Mumbai residence for a show in Kolkata, his revolver accidentally discharged, injuring his leg. The incident occurred around 4:45 am as Govinda was placing the firearm in his cupboard.
The actor was immediately rushed to Criti Care Hospital near his Juhu home for medical attention. Fortunately, the bullet has been removed, and Govinda is recovering well. In an audio message, he assured his fans of his progress, thanking them for their prayers and well wishes. “With the blessings of my fans, my parents and god, I am doing better now. I was hit by a bullet, which has now been removed,” the 60-year-old actor said.
News of the incident reached Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who expressed concern for the actor’s well-being. Shinde contacted Govinda personally, inquiring about his health and offering his support. “Govinda and his family have been assured of all necessary help during this difficult time. Our best wishes and prayers are with them and their loved ones. Govinda is a popular and respected personality in Indian cinema. He has made millions happy with his acting. We wish him a speedy recovery,” the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) stated.
Mumbai Police have initiated an investigation into the incident, though no formal complaint has been filed. Govinda’s political affiliation with the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena adds another layer to the situation. The actor, whose real name is Govind Arun Ahuja, re-entered the political arena ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, joining Shinde’s faction of the Shiv Sena. His previous foray into politics was in 2004 when he won the Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency seat on a Congress ticket.
