Daniel Day-Lewis Returns to Acting in Son’s Debut Film ‘Anemone’

Daniel Day-Lewis, the legendary actor known for his transformative performances and three Academy Awards for Best Actor, is set to return to the screen after a self-imposed retirement. He will appear in his son Ronan Day-Lewis’ directorial debut film, titled ‘Anemone.’ This marks a significant comeback for Day-Lewis, who last graced the big screen in 2017’s ‘Phantom Thread.’

Ronan Day-Lewis, a painter who is set to hold his first international exhibition in Hong Kong in October followed by New York and Los Angeles, co-wrote the script for ‘Anemone’ alongside his father. The film explores the complex dynamics of father-son and sibling relationships, showcasing “the energy of family ties,” according to Variety. The star-studded cast includes Sean Bean, known for his roles in ‘Lord of the Rings’ and ‘Game of Thrones,’ Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green.

Focus Features, the studio behind ‘Phantom Thread,’ will produce ‘Anemone’ in partnership with Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B. Jane Petrie, known for her work on the Netflix series ‘The Crown,’ will be the costume designer, Chris Oddy, who worked on the recent film ‘The Banshees of Inisherin,’ will be the production designer, and Ben Fordesman, known for his work on ‘Saint Maud,’ will be the director of photography.

Earlier this year, Day-Lewis reunited with Martin Scorsese at the National Board of Review Awards. The renowned director expressed his hopes for Day-Lewis’ return to acting and the possibility of another collaboration between the two. With this return, the world eagerly anticipates seeing Day-Lewis’ captivating performance on the silver screen once again.
