Reju Opens First Regeneration Hub Zero in Frankfurt, Revolutionizing Textile Recycling

In a groundbreaking move towards sustainable textile production, Reju, a company dedicated to textile regeneration, has opened its first Regeneration Hub Zero in Frankfurt, Germany. This marks a significant milestone for the company, which was established just 12 months ago in Paris. The hub, constructed in record time, is expected to begin delivering its first recycled textiles in 2025.

Reju, a subsidiary of global engineering and technology leader Technip Energies, utilizes technology developed by IBM’s research team. The company is creating a new circular system and infrastructure for large-scale collection, regeneration, and recirculation of textile waste, starting with polyester. This innovative approach combines the expertise of Reju’s newly formed team with the experience of Technip Energies, enabling the company to expand at an unprecedented pace.

Reju ensures complete traceability from textile waste, which would otherwise end up in landfills or incinerators, to new textiles. The final product, Reju Polyester, boasts a 50% lower carbon footprint compared to virgin polyester. Reju is committed to bringing a demonstrably cleaner product to market, one that can be endlessly regenerated. To establish this new structure, Reju collaborates with partners to ensure the collection and sorting of textiles, creating a circular textile system unlike any seen before.

“We are starting with the most pressing textile waste issue – polyester,” said Patrik Frisk, CEO of Reju. “The world produces 92 million tons of textile waste annually, with less than 1% recycled. This system depletes finite resources and creates textile waste with no responsibility for its end-of-life. Reju is changing this by creating a new system through key partnerships around the world. We will build the infrastructure, expand technologies, comply with regulations, and ultimately help the textile industry evolve to enable a change in behavior. Our Regeneration Hub Zero in Frankfurt is a major milestone demonstrating how this advanced technology is tackling the global textile waste problem.”

Leading the company alongside Alain Poincheval, COO of Reju and a 35-year veteran of Technip Energies, is Frisk, a veteran in the industry and former CEO of Under Armour Inc., CEO of the Aldo Group, and Executive Chairman of VF Corp.

“Technip Energies brings over 65 years of engineering experience, operating in 34 countries,” said Alain Poincheval. “The company has proven its expertise in accelerating climate solutions by combining engineering and construction capabilities with technological know-how to move towards a less carbon-dependent, more sustainable economy of tomorrow.”
